Charlie Duff is Editor of HRzone.co.uk – the online, UK-based web community and e-zine for HR practitioners, providing advice, news and views on employment law, employee engagement, managing people and all other things HR. She live-blogs from conferences, edits all the content you see and loves being a part of the HR digital and real-life community.
Previously she was Assistant Editor for theHRDIRECTOR magazine – a publication for HR seniors. She did ‘everything the editor didn’t’ as one half of a dynamic editorial team, helping with all tasks from production to commissioning, writing to hosting events. She is the ultimate all-round journalist, as happy writing news as features, and loves working online and with new media. Over her year with theHRDIRECTOR she transformed the publication from a borderline journal to a readable, fresh-looking magazine with great content, the flexibility to include great timely features and put news back on the agenda.
Charlie’s journalistic career began while she was studying International Relations at Swansea University, when she somehow managed to persuade the editor in charge she would make a great features editor. Suddenly given 1/4 of a student newspaper to fill, she used her resourceful nature and organisational skills to develop features which were fun and relevant to the audience. As well as being features editor she contributed a column to the university magazine, which won her the Columnist of the Year award. She has since contributed to several other magazines including The Times, Stuff.tv, Living Woods, Buzz, Permaculture and Building Products.
Charlie currently lives in and loves Wales. Her interests are varied, but she is ultimately drawn to anything creative and eco-friendly. She has developed specialist interests and experience in HR, international relations and carbon zero building and living. A domestic goddess given half a chance, she loves interiors, especially retro 1950s and art noveau design, kitsch kitchen gadgets and antique sewing machines. Alongside this she’s a dedicated gym bunny and lane-hog in the pool. When she has time she sews on a 1934 Singer, makes gorgeous vegan cupcakes and cuddles her favourite geek.
Unafraid to breach any topic, Charlie is a bold writer with a distinctive style which is highly readable and memorable.
